Kangaroos and Cookie Tour

So what do Kangaroos and our annual cookie tour have in common? Our theme this year was 'Holidays around the World', so I thought we should be a little different and showcase Australia. Using a Rolf Harris song, "Six White Boomers", some seriously demented imagination, a bunch of odds and ends, and Hilary's focus we created six white kangaroos pulling Santa's sleigh. This is because of the terrible heat in Australia at Christmas and reindeer need to rest. So Santa gets pulled around by six white old man kangaroos. We also hosted a gingerbread creation, funny enough it also fit into the theme and we created, "Christmas at Ayers Rock". The video of the making of this can be found on our site under the specials page or on "You Tube" (search for 'christmas at ayers rock'). We then spent the weekend in shorts and standard aussie bush clothes... as a side note, it was quite chilly bringing in firewood. We enjoyed as we always do the cookie tour. Thanks to everyone that came by.

Upgrade to Blog

So Blogger was fine to get our feet wet in the Blogosphere, but as we're always looking for bigger and better things, it was time to upgrade. As of February 5th, we've switched to Wordpress which gives us what we think is a better look and feel. More like the main website!! Click here to view our latest posts!

One thing about working in business for yourself is that there's never a dull moment. Certainly being an innkeeper is more than just making beds and serving breakfast and you always have to be adaptable to whatever the day throws at you. Once more this morning, I found myself outside with the snowblower and the shovel, single-handedly trying to figure out where on earth to put yet another 6 inches of new snow. And just when I thought I had two quiet days to do my taxes uninterrupted!! Now, I shouldn't grumble. Those of you who've been following us for the last 5 winters will understand that this is jackpot year - we have the white stuff - in copious quantities. But shifting it off the driveway every 3 days, sufficiently well enough to allow safe passage between the car and the front door, is getting a mite tedious. Add in a nice layer of ice, thanks to a partial thaw, and the 35 minutes it usually takes to mow the drive stretches into 2 hours! So there went my morning!

February is of course, romance month, and what could be more romantic than a beautiful snowy day or night cuddled up with the one you love! If you're looking to get away just for the night, then check-out one of our Valentine's Escape packages. With just about everything included, this is definitely the way to go to show your favorite person how much they mean to you. Additionally, if you have longer, or prefer to set your own itinerary, we can still set you up with romantic sleigh rides, candlelit dinners, chocolates, champagne and roses - all the goodies - but at a more leisurely pace. Call us with your ideas!

An Unusual Bed and Breakfast Guest

As innkeepers, we're used to seeing a few "unusual" guests come to us over the course of a season or two. Some of them have two-legs, but during the winter months especially, its not uncommon to find evidence in our garage of some of the four-legged variety, who come in from the cold and decide to stay. Its warm (plenty of tarps), dry and the best thing of all - there's free food!

Yesterday, we encountered a new visitor. While preparing to take the trash down to the town transfer station, we were startled by a white streak flashing across the garage floor. Never having seen something this color before, we waited in silence for a few seconds, then the streak dashed back across the floor and headed straight into the pile of garden equipment. Quietly we waited again, then a beautiful little face popped up over the coiled garden hose to look at us. Its pointed nose, little black eyes and white, white fur coat gave the game away instantly and the black tip on the end of its tail confirmed it. Our first weasel!! How do we know? Well aside from looking in the critters book that Derrek has, I applied the old British adage:- how do you tell a weasel from a stoat? Well, weasels are weasily identified while stoats are stoatally different .....! Errrr!
